At the Wessex Institute of Directors Forum, together with Philip Warr (Deputy Chairman) and Jonathan Clark (Chairman). |
One of my jobs as a Member of Parliament is to visit local businesses and listen to their concerns. At forums hosted by the Wessex Branch of the Institute of Directors, I meet leaders of some of the top businesses in South East Dorset, including aerospace, construction, venture capital, HR and other professional services.
During the Forum, local Members of Parliament are questioned on a range of issues that affect business and employment, including EU enlargement and tax harmonisation, reform of business regulation, the process of government grants and the implications of the removal of the 48 hour opt out under the Working Time Directive.
In addition, I recently met members of the Road Haulage Association to discuss their need for a high-grade dualised north-south road link from the South East Dorset conurbation to the M4.
Following on from this, I have had discussions with the Dorset Business Chamber of Commerce about the need to improve the primary road network in Dorset.
