BOURNEMOUTH WEST M.P. QUESTIONS GOVERNMENT ON CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY
Bournemouth West M.P., Sir John Butterfill, is questioning the Government on its policy on climate change.

In a statement today, John said “The Government’s proposed home revaluation for Council Tax proposes a tax of 0.78% on the capital value of a property and that the capital value should reflect any improvements carried out on the home, such as double glazing, roof and cavity wall insulation, condensing boilers etc.  It seems to me absolutely unbelievable that the Government should be levying higher taxes on those who have done their utmost to reduce the CO2 emissions from their home and I have, therefore, written to the responsible Minister on this matter”

  • John receives a huge number of letters from constituents about climate change.  He believes that increasing the energy efficiency of our nation’s housing stock is one of the most cost effective ways of reducing our consumption of energy and hence carbon dioxide emissions.

John has also signed Early Day Motion 178 calling on the Government to take action on climate change
