SIR JOHN BUTTERFILL TO BECOME PATRON OF FERNHEATH PLAY ASSOCIATION
John attended a meeting at Fernheath Play Association, Verney Road, West Howe, on Friday (12 January) with Mrs Paddy Williamson, Hon Chairperson and John Hardwick, Centre Manager, of the Fernheath Play Association, together with Councillor Beryl Baxton.

At the meeting there was a general discussion about the general needs of the Fernheath Play Association and John made a number of suggestions as to where the Association might look for future funding.

John was asked if he would be prepared to serve as a Patron of the Association and he confirmed that he would be honoured and delighted to do so.

John has for some time been a keen supporter of Fernheath Play Association and the splendid work that it carries out in Verney Road, West Howe.  He said:  “There are currently over 300 children who are registered at Fernheath Play Association and some 50 of these have special needs.  Last summer, there were 5,000 visits by local children to the play group and the work of Fernheath is an invaluable asset to the community in West Howe”.

Local charities have been most helpful in paying the capital cost of the new annex which has recently obtained planning consent and the Bournemouth Borough Council has been most helpful in providing grants for the wages of the staff.  Nevertheless, there is always a need for further money towards the overall running cost of Fernheath and John has pledged that he will do his best to try to assist with this by finding local donors.  Any such donors reading this article can always get in touch with John by emailing butterfillj@parliament.uk.
