BOURNEMOUTH WEST M.P. BACKS BOWEL CANCER CAMPAIGN

Bowel Cancer Campaign

Bournemouth West M.P., Sir John Butterfill, has pledged his support for Beating Bowel Cancer’s campaign by backing the charity’s new ‘Bowel Cancer 2012 Challenge’ which calls for significant improvements in disease awareness and patient outcomes by the Olympic Year 2012.

The charity’s Loud Tie Campaign which was launched at the House of Commons  urges people to wear loud wacky ties during Loud Tie week and get sponsored for doing so.  Bowel cancer is the second biggest cause of cancer deaths in the UK but, if diagnosed in time, it is very easy to treat successfully.  However, awareness is still very low and charity hopes that the general public will get behind this year’s campaign by digging out their loudest neckwear, raising important funds and helping to spread the world about this common cancer.

Speaking at the charity’s Parliamentary Launch Event held in the House of Commons, John said:  ‘I am delighted to be supporting the Loud Tie campaign and the launch of the Bowel Cancer 2012 Challenge.  This policy shaping document calls for real improvements in the area of bowel cancer, in particular in increasing awareness and better outcomes for patients, within the next five years.  I would like to congratulate Beating Bowel Cancer on the launch of their campaign and urge my constituents to join in and dig out their loudest ties or neckwear during Loud Tie Week!’
