CARERS WEEK 2008

 

Sir John Butterfill has expressed his support for the six million carers in this country who provide unpaid help and support to relatives and friends by signing Early Day Motion 1369..

John said that ‘I have always been concerned that there are a large number of carers who are unknown to statutory agencies and whose own health needs are often overlooked.  During Carers Week 2008 from the 9th to 15th June, a partnership of ten national charities are banding together with the theme ‘Carers can’t afford to be ill’ and I have given them my total support.  I believe that carers need to be viewed as key partners in community care and that they need health and social care provision that is accessible and flexible.  During the next two decades, we will need substantially more carers and the time to start supporting them is NOW'.
