TAKING PART IN DISCUSSION ON PERSONALISED SOCIAL CARE SERVICES

Bournemouth West M.P., Sir John Butterfill, took part in a discussion about social care services at the House of Commons recently at an event organised by the workforce regulator, the General Social Care Council (GSCC).

Major reforms are currently being introduced to the social care system to tailor services to each person’s individual needs and the GSCC is looking at how social care workers might need to change the way they work to deliver different services to each person.

John said “I receive a huge number of letters from constituents about issues such as care for the elderly, mental health services and disability services and the GSCC was keen to hear my views on how services need to change.”

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the GSCC Sir Rodney Brooke said “The future for social care is one of providing a more personalised service for individuals who require care, listening to their needs and developing the right solutions for them, rather than a one size fits all approach”.

John discussed with him the wide range of experiences of his constituents in accessing social care services and how the services could be arranged differently to meet their needs.  The Chairman was grateful to have this information in order to look at how these badly needed reforms could be delivered.
