STREETWISE AND THE PRINCESS
![]() |
As a Trustee of Streetwise, Sir John Butterfill, M.P. for Bournemouth West, was very honoured to meet The Princess Royal, on Thursday 7th February, 2008, when she visited Dorset’s award winning Safety Centre in Bournemouth. Arriving at a local recreation ground by helicopter, the Princess travelled to Streetwise with the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Mrs Valerie Pitt-Rivers. The Princess spent nearly an hour and a half there, watching the Safety Tour, meeting with many of the charity’s supporters and volunteers and finally unveiling a commemorative stone plaque to mark the occasion.
The Princess Royal was met at Streetwise by a civic reception party comprising the High Sheriff of Dorset (Adrian Scott), Pam Donnellan (Chief Executive of Bournemouth Borough Council) and Sir John, all of whom are trustees of Streetwise. She also met the Mayor of Bournemouth (Councillor Ann Filer), Dorset Police Deputy Chief Constable (Chris Lee) and Streetwise Centre Manager (Alison Curtis).
The Princess also watched children learning how to cross the road safely, make a practice 999 call and take part in the railway safety scenario aboard the full-size Virgin Express train.
More than 100 supporters, including 50 volunteers from Streetwise, were present at the special visit.
